Stretch mark is a form of scar that develops when skin shrinks or expands quickly. This sudden change causes rupture of collagen and elastin fibres resulting in marks to appear on the skin. Initially the stretch marks can be red, brown or dark in colour but with time as they mature the colour fades.
Although stretch marks are permanent but treatment makes them less noticeable. We need to understand that no treatment works same for everyone. Here are few treatment options-
1.Creams, Gels and Lotions – The products that seems to work are Hyaluronic acid and Tretinoin.
Use the products everyday for weeks to see the results.
2. Procedures – With all procedures we can fade the stretch marks, but none of them will completely can get rid of them. Side effects like redness and swelling are very common after procedure, that tends to disappear in few hours or days.
3. Home Remedies – Research shows that massaging olive oil, almond oil, cocoa butter or vitamin E doesn’t help to fade the stretch marks. Tanning makes stretch marks more visible because they don’t tan.
Studies shows that products containing hyaluronic acid or Centella may help in preventing the formation of stretch marks. The in office procedures has proven to be more effective than creams, gels or lotions.
